Just 24 minutes from our Forestville, MD apartments is the most visited national park in the United States.
We’re talking about the National Mall, and it’s where the past, present, and future come together.
Nicknamed “America’s Backyard,” the National Mall spans over two miles and features everything from towering monuments to fascinating museums.
National Gallery of Art
After the United States Congress signed a joint resolution, the National Gallery of Art was established in 1937. It’s one of the world’s preeminent museums, and the masterpieces range from the 13th century through today. The exhibits frequently rotate, and artists include Ansel Adams, Leonardo di Vinci, and Rembrandt van Rijn. Admission is free, and audio guides enhance the experience.
National Air and Space Museum
Step into the National Air and Space Museum to see the most significant collection of aviation and space artifacts. Its two facilities welcome over eight million people a year, making it the most visited museum in the United States.
One of the exhibits not to be missed includes the Wright Brothers: The Invention of the Aerial Age. At the center stands the 1903 Wright Flyer, the first successful airplane. The display also features instruments, historic photographs, and the brothers’ personal items.
United States Botanic Garden
The United States Botanic Garden has been in bloom since the 1800s. It’s full of history and is one of North America’s oldest botanic gardens.
One of the highlights includes the three-acre National Garden. Overlooking Capitol Hill, it was designed to satisfy the gardener while showcasing the beauty of the Mid-Atlantic region’s flora. Visitors can also enjoy free 45-minute guided tours of the botanic garden that cover the special exhibits and much more.
